How it works
First: is coaching right for you?
There are so many many ways available to us to explore, heal, and develop ourselves. Life coaching is only one - and there are even many forms of that. Contact me to set up a free 30-minute consultation so that we can get to know each other and see if the work I do might benefit you. If not, I’m always happy to point you toward other resources and colleagues that might be a better fit.
Getting to the root
If you do decide to move forward, we begin with a lengthy, in-depth conversation that is vital part of the coaching process. It is about two hours long and will be the time during which I gather information about your issue (the reason you are seeking coaching), and the ways that elements of your life may be causing that issue to persist (often unconsciously). It is this meeting – as well as some materials you’ll fill out before we begin – that will inform the work you do over the subsequent weeks and months.
Personal development plan
After we’ve gotten to the root of what’s up, I’ll synthesize what we uncovered and tailor a plan of exercises, practices, and/or resources intended to address what we have mutually decided is the heart of the work. These practices are not meant to be cumbersome additions to your daily life, but rather things that can be incorporated into each day to begin to gently stretch your boundaries and produce new awareness about yourself and the world. We’ll be making adjustments to these practices throughout your program to ensure that you are always benefitting from them, and can take them forward when the program concludes.
Coaching sessions
Coaching sessions are just part of what happens during the program. Meetings occur every two weeks on average. In between, you’ll be engaging your development plan: practices and resources to help you discover new parts of yourself, and to sustain that new way of being. Our sessions will provide a framework for your overall program, allow you to dig deeper into your issue and discover new resources, support you in times of difficulty, and offer different perspectives on your experience.
How long does it take?
Committing to a coaching program means that you believe that change is possible over time. While you may experience insights that transform your life at various moments during our coaching relationship, it is also necessary to engage regular practices that shift how you live. In my experience, when a client is dedicated to his or her program, changes will begin to take hold in about three to six months. One of the best things about coaching is that there is an end point - it’s not meant to go on indefinitely. Once the intended outcome of the program is evident, the program will naturally draw to a close.
